Catalogue note:
[Maude Phelps McVeigh Hutchins received a B.F.A from the Yale School of Fine Arts in 1926. She originally was a sculptor, but later moved on to painting and drawing. Hutchins received several gallery exhibitions in Chicago and she was represented in the modern art exhibition at the 1933 Chicago World's Fair. She was also a published novelist. Hutchins married University of Chicago president Robert M. Hutchins in 1921; they divorced in 1948, after which she lived in Connecticut.] Archives of American Art website
