NAPOLEON III GILT-BRONZE, MOTHER OF PEARL AND ROUGE MARBLE ENCRIER, MID-19TH CENTURY
formed as a gilt-bronze decorated drum, the rouge marble body hung with floral and tasseled swags, atop a flaring gilt-bronze engine turned base, with engine turned gilt-bronze band around the Palais Royal mother-of-pearl slightly domed circular upper surface, with a small gilt-bronze sander and two circular apertures for glass ink bottles alternating with circular quill openings, rope twist gilt-bronze handle

    Deaccessioned Property from the Collection of a Washington, D.C., House Museum
  • Dimensions: Height: 3 3/4 in. (9.5 cm.), Diameter: 4 5/8 in. (11.7 cm.)
  • Condition: Missing one of the smaller quill inserts, crack to mother of pearl cover by an ink aperture, approx. 1/4 in., with small chips around edges of larger circular apertures and outer edges. Evidence of of old polish and encrustation. Accession number 64.1912 painted in white around base.
