NYMPHENBURG PORCELAIN LARGE FIGURE OF BACCHUS 20th Century, impressed Bavarian shield mark to base and underside, impressed 2 and incised 41, after a model by D. Auliczek, in the white, the nude god draped in a leopard pelt, depicted seated on a massive grapevine stump, offering a bunch of grapes in his right hand, an overturned ewer and a thyrsus at his feet, on a naturalistically molded mound base, h: 14.75 in.

Provenance: Estate of Ronald Sperling

Literature: The sculptor and porcelain designer Dominik Auliczek (1734 - 1804) was born in Bohemia and employed for many years at Nymphenburg. Today his late Baroque style garden sculptures of gods and goddesses can be seen in the gardens of Nymphenburg palace.
