Catalogue note:
Peter Bela Mayer was an impressionist painter, known primarily for his views of the New England landscape and locations near his home on Long Island at Port Washington. From 1908 to 1915, he studied at the National Academy of Design in New York. Mayer first garnered .public attention in 1914 when he exhibited at the Corcoran Gallery of Art in Washington DC. During the 1920s, the artist exhibited at the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts, the Art Institute of Chicago, and the Brooklyn Museum. Mayer added the name Peter in the 1940s to avoid confusion with other painters
