POLYCHROME AND PARCEL-GILT ENAMEL PLAQUE, LIMOGES, EARLY 16TH CENTURY depicting the "Ascension" of Christ, within gilt metal and fabric frame with fleur de lis at the corners. The design is based on a print by Albrecht Durer from his series the "Small Passion," published in 1511. Two other plaques from this series are located in the St. Louis Art Museum ("The Deposition of Christ," and "The Resurrection.") They are attributed to Pierre II Veyrier (active c. 1528-1558) and are in nearly identical gilt metal frames with fleur de lis at the angles and velvet backing - h:4.75 w:3.75 in.
