REGENCY INLAID SATINWOOD CYLINDER BUREAU, EARLY 19TH CENTURY
the reeded rectangular top above a cylinder bureau enclosing an elaborate fitted interior with drawers, pigeonholes and hinged writing surface above a frieze fitted with two drawers above a kneehole with a door flanked by doors inlaid with musical trophies on turned feet

  • Provenance:
    Sold by the Museum of the Shenandoah Valley to benefit acquisition and conservation funds. Estate of Julian Wood Glass, Jr. (1910-1992) of Winchester, Virginia; New York, New York; and Tulsa, Oklahoma.
  • Dimensions: 42 x 49 1/2 x 22 in. (106.68 x 125.73 x 55.88 cm.)
  • Condition: Leather writing surface cracked and under-lining exposed, paint or other residue on both outer doors, residue also found on upper half of center door just below molding, multiple indentations on interior board of proper-left cabinet side where shelf repeatedly bumped while being inserted, lower half of flush center drawer cracked and poorly repaired across the horizontal plane, back proper-left foot is sun damaged, chip to proper-right corner between moldings, previous assessments have called into question some of the inlay patterns
