SUFFRAGETTE SASH "VOTES FOR WOMEN", PATRIOTIC SASH "JUSTICE" TOGETHER WITH 23 BROADSIDES FOR BETTER WORKING CONDITIONS THE CONSUMERS' LEAGUE OF THE CITY OF NEW YORK pre 1920, gold satin sash measures 48 x 3 1/2 in. with additional separate gold satin sash stamped in black "VOTES FOR WOMEN" measuring 22 x 2 1/4 in., the color gold was taken from the symbolic sunflower (the Kansas state symbol) while Susan B. Anthony and Elizabeth Cady Stanton were campaigning there. These sashes were worn to rallies, parades and meetings to support the right to vote, the 19th Amendment in 1920; red, white, and blue woven silk taffeta states "JUSTICE" with mitred corners, gilt metal tassel and sequin decorated rosette to ends measures 42 x 4 in., not including tassel; broadsides are printed on the front (the broadsides were recycled as the reverse side has manually typed letters from a single 27-year-old living in Washington named Elizabeth to her mother about her life), 11 x 8 1/2 in.
