THE SALAHI RED SARI The red tulle sari worn by Mrs. Salahi at The White House State Dinner. The ensemble consists of three pieces: Choli, lehenga, and wrap. Each piece fashioned of red net with hand sewn gilt metallic thread and sequin embroidery.
The choli is a midriff baring blouse, worn in countries where the sari is worn, including India, Pakistan and Bangladesh. It has a low neckline and short sleeves. This blouse is usually cropped and has hook and eye closures down the back.
The lehenga is the skirt worn with the choli and is native to several parts of India, where regional differences are reflected in material and embroidery.
Choli: 9" high, 24" wide
Lehenga: adjustable waist: 25", 45 1/2" long
Wrap: 44 x 105"
