Shadowbox framed, a meticulous and beautifully rendered needlework and oil rendering of the 1887 Volunteer yacht that successfully defended the America's Cup from the challenge of the Scottish yacht, Thistle in New York Harbor. In the distance is Sandy Hook Lighthouse, New Jersey. The first ever all steel frame and hull sloop was designed by Edward Burgess and built in Delaware by Pusey & Jones Shipbuilding Co. The ship was owned by Gen. Charles J. Paine, a member of the New York Yacht Club
