Literature:
Johann Friedrich Lueck (1727-1797) was a renowned sculptor, active at Frankenthal between 1758 and 1764. He was previously a model-maker at Meissen and Hoechst.

These three figures were originally designed as part of a table centerpiece (surtout de table). The two female figures are after paintings by Nicolas Lancret and depict either the Parisian ballerina, Marie-Anne de Cupis de Camargo or Marie Salle. For an eighteenth-century example of the male figure, see the British Museum, accession no. 1923,0314.92.CR
