N. 3395, of flaring cylindrical form, transfer-printed with a golfer and caddy and inscribed, 'ALL FOOLS ARE NOT KNAVES, BUT EVERY KNAVE IS A FOOL', h: 5.5 in.; a Dickensware handled bowl of Mr. Micawber, circa 1908, black printed marks, pattern no. Literature: The Doulton 'Golf' series was based on poster illustration by Charles Crombie. The 'Famous Rules of Golf' was first published in book form in 1905. The 'The Jackdaw Of Rheims' series was based on illustrations from the book written by Richard Harris Barham (1788 1845).
