Description:

TIFFANY, YOUNG & ELLIS (NEW YORK) CASED SILVER COCKTAIL FORK SET, CIRCA 1841 TO 1853
in original fitted rosewood case (13)

Catalogue note:
Tiffany, Young & Ellis was the name of the firm from 1841-1853 but the first iteration of Tiffany & Co. was founded in 1837 in New York by Charles Lewis Tiffany and John B. Young.

  • Condition: Wear to green silk lining of case, no key. Tiffany, Young & Ellis was the name used by the firm between 1841-1853. The insertions are typically silver plated, and as there are no marks the handles are coin but they are loaded. This means that the handles are filled with pitch or cement and the actual silver weight is rather low. As there was no legislation until 1905, it makes sense that the handles of the knives are coin silver. Having said all of this, the forks are in very good condition. No rosing to insertions and crisp casting to handles.
