Description:

TWO CHINESE CORAL CARVINGS, LATE QING DYNASTY
the first, a meiren, her hair upswept in a chignon, dressed in flowing robes and holding a ruyi sceptre over her shoulder, with gilt wire support to reverse, and now glued to a wire inlaid wood stand, the material of a softer coral tone with scattered areas of white inclusions; the second carving of a deeper tone, of a tall thin bottle encrusted with prunus and roses, all atop faux rockery, now glued to carved wood base (2)

  • Dimensions: Height of both: 5 in. (12.70 cm.)
  • Condition: Meiren: chips to top of ruyi over shoulder.
Thin bottle: top broken off (finial) and some of stems missing as well as chips to leaf and flower petal tips. Looks like a snuff bottle from front, but reverse shows no sign of lip or rim of any kind. Old glue repair traces, but finial of two carved roses is detached.
