handle, enameled with a Chinese figure holding an

open sugar-bowl with beaded rims and entwined rope-

Provenance: With Paul Madden Antiques, Sandwich Village, MA, 21 August, 1987 (the teapot & cover); Estate of Tom and Lee Stanley English Creamware Collection

Literature: The style of painting found on the teapot relates to that
found on other Cockpit Hill examples and on Derby
porcelain. See Donald Towner, "Creamware," Faber and Faber: London, 1978, p. 116, no. 55 for a cylindrical teapot with similar decoration. Towner suggests that the type of chinoiserie decoration found on this piece were "almost certainly by the same enameller that painted Cockpit Hill earthenware and Derby porcelain."
