PALMER HANLEY wafer marks, both of shield shape with upright loop handles, the ram head terminals suspending husk swags, the front with a riveted medallion pendant of Marsyas and Apollo inscribed, 'LAVR MED' for Lorenzo de' Medici, the other side with a circular rosette, the stepped socle foot, raised on a square plinth (2)

    Catalogue note:
    The medallion of Marsyas and Apollo is based on a prototype originally in Lorenzo de' Medici's collection of gemstones most of which are now held in Museo Archeologico in Naples.
  • Condition: Both missing covers, one vase with a chip to the edge of the square base and possible repair to the lower section of the vase; the other minor surface nibbles to the lower edge of the base, the vase reattached to the foot
