Description:

TWO ISSUES OF THE FEDERALIST NEWSPAPER, "GAZETTE OF THE UNITED STATES," FEDERALIST PAPER, DATED SEPTEMBER 12 AND 16, 1789 published in New York bi-weekly, the Gazette was owned by John Fenno. Later, the paper was relocated to Philadelphia when the seat of government moved there. This paper supported George Washington; later, a rival paper by the anti-Federalists (championed by Jefferson and James Madison) was begun and called "The National Gazette." The issue on the 16th mentions a very long discussion on moving the seat of government from New York (where it was) to be near the Potowmac River versus the Susquehanna River, as well as another article on the storming of the Bastille and states "...the commons of France against the Nobles.... 7000 died on the spot....Bastille was totally demolished."
