TWO JAPANESE TRAVELING SHRINES (ZUSHI), EDO PERIOD the first, with a black lacquer case fitted with etched brass clasp, trim and hinges, opening to reveal a patterned and gilded interior fitted with a single large Buddha standing on a lotus base, h: 5 in.; and the other, a smaller wood example, with a five character gilt inscription reading Hachimandai bosatsu to left door exterior, opening to reveal a guardian figure to each door, with a central figure atop a lotus base, paper label and inscription to underside, h: 2.75 in.
