TWO WERNHER VON BRAUN SIGNED NASA FIRST DAY COVERS FOR APOLLO 7 AND APOLLO 16 two NASA First Day Cover envelopes signed by Wernher von Braun (1912-1977) during a lecture at George Washington University in the early 1970s. First cover with Apollo 7 logo of the Command Service Module, 6 cent stamp, cancelled in 1968, with address written in blue ink, von Braun signature in blue/black ink. Second envelope with NASA Apollo 16 logo, 8 cent space double stamp, cancelled at Smithsonian in 1972, von Braun signature in blue/black ink. The German-born engineer moved to Washington, D.C. in 1970 to work at NASA, and later, at Fairchild Industries in MD. A controversial figure owing to his role in helping the Nazi regime develop the V2 rocket during WW2, he became a spokesman for U.S. aerospace engineering, rocketry and human spaceflight (2)
