VIRGINIA CHIPPENDALE WALNUT SIDE CHAIR, LATE 18TH CENTURY
with splat similar to the Carter family side chair from Shirley, Southeast Virginia, 1760-1775, that descended to Edward Carter of Blenheim, Albemarle County. The chair is a later version, 1765-1780, of the Carter chair shown at the 1952 Virginia Museum of Fine Arts exhibition, "Furniture of the Old South, 1640–1820," and is likely from the same shop.
