Catalogue Note:
Heinrich Klaproth was a German apothecary, chemist and mineralogist. He is credited with the discovery of uranium, zirconium and cerium and for his ground-breaking analysis of the compounds titanium, strontium and chromium. He became a member of the Royal Society of London in 1795. In accordance, it seems appropriate that his portrait medallion is a rare combination of yellow jasperware and 'Rosso Antico' design.
