WEDGWOOD CREAMWARE BLACK TRANSFER-PRINTED TEAPOT AND COVER
circa 1765, Staffordshire, the printed decoration attributed to Sadler & Green, Liverpool, oviform with overlapping shell-molded spout and entwined strap handle, the inset cover with a rose finial, the shell-molded sides printed in the so-called 'Liverpool Bird' pattern with exotic birds in flight and strutting in landscapes, h: 5.5 in.

In the years 1761-1790, Wedgwood employed the printing firm John Sadler & Guy Green of Liverpool.
Wedgwood would sell them undecorated wares to be
decorated with transfer prints. Once successfully
decorated, the objects would be repurchased. Also see

firms. At Wedgwood, this print is known as the
'Liverpool Bird' pattern

Literature: A teapot and cover of the same design, Given by Lady
Charlotte Schreiber, is in the Victoria & Albert Museum,
accession no. 414:1154/&A-1885. A teacup and saucer
of the same design is in the British Museum.
