Catalogue Note:
For a discussion on this pattern and an example from the David Newbon Collection, see Una des Fontaines, 'Wedgwood Fairyland Lustre: The works of Daisy Makeig-Jones', pp. 219-220, pl. 52. Here noted that this design is unique in that it contains two nudes, a seductive figure at the left wearing only a necklace and a grief-stricken winged figure at the right, between them is a baby riding on the crest of a wave. "The main difference in colour between this plaque and the first one is that the standing nude is black; the brazen sky and mountains are a deep Flame or burnt orange shade, the shoreline has turned violet and a green bow curves over a blue, white-crested wave: the baby is yellow."
