This example is illustrated as shape no. 2 in the 1802 Wedgwood Drawing Book. Jelly core molds are documented from 1782 (Parson Woodford's diary) and remained popular into the early 19th Century. Charles Carroll placed an order with his London agent for "one dozen moulds of different sizes trimmed within for jellies". The conical mold was made in two sizes 8 1/2 in. and 10 in. high. The same form with similar painting is illustrated in David Buten, et. al., "18th Century Wedgwood, A Guide to Collectors and Connoisseurs", (1980), pl. 63.
