Description:

CHINESE MANDARIN'S WINTER HAT Qing dynasty, 19th/ 20th century, of typical form, with brown fur-trimmed brim and a black horizontally quilted crown rising to a clear finial with pierced bronze fittings over a row of long red fringe, the interior fitted with pale orange fabric and with an affixed oval paper label and ink mark of Xuang da?, dark blue cotton strap - h:7 in.

  • Condition: Fur trim worn especially at edges, hat appears to have crushed and is still a bit pushed in and is still off balance. Strap is mangled and looks very short, possibly cut. Otherwise hat in pretty good condition, label and ink marks are clearly legible. Lining is a bit faded but in good condition. Interior has a small dished "button" at top. There is a piece of red elastic around finial that looks new. I have never handled a hat of this typoe before but in my opinion it is in remarkably good condition but for the fur.
