ENGLISH DOCUMENTARY SALT-GLAZED STONEWARE POLYCHROME-ENAMELED JUG, DATED 1768
probably John Platt Factory, Yorkshire, Rotherham, the painting perhaps from the workshop of David Rhodes, of pear shape, the strap handle with pinched kick terminal, the mouth painted in iron-red with an entrelac band, centered below the spout a distinctive iron-red and black feathered cartouche enclosing the inscription "John Kirkham 1768", the sides with tight bouquets and scattered sprays

C.67-1971, The V&A example descended in the family of John Platt, owner of the Rotherham Old Pottery, 1766-70. For a similarly painted cartouche, attributed to the workshop of David Rhodes, reference the 'Edward Hayward. Brimpsfield.' jug at the British Museum, accession no. 1957,1201.6.
