probably Staffordshire, the center enameled after an engraving by Jean-Baptiste Pillemont, depicting a Chinese figure dangling from a tree branch picking peony blossoms from a near branch, a butterfly in flight at the periphery, the shaped-border molded and richly colored with alternating thistle and blue flowers
