ENGLISH LIGHT-BLUE JASPERWARE AND BRILLIANT CUT-STEEL CHATELAINE circa 1785, no visible mark, the jasperware attributed to Wedgwood, the cut-steel mounts and chain were likely made in Birmingham and assembled at the Soho workshop of Matthew Boulton (1728-1809), including three accessories, an octagonal scent-bottle applied in white relief with the 'Bourbonnais Shepherd' and 'Poor Maria' after designs by Lady Elizabeth Templetown, a wax seal and a watch key, flanked by two clusters of beaded loops, all issuing from a central double sided oval medallion of classical male and female figures, set within a beaded surround and suspended from an elaborate inlayed chain, l: 14 1/2 in., overall

Catalogue Note:
A chatelaine is a late 18th Century fashion accessory, generally worn around the waist. It was intended to keep useful objects close-to-hand.
