FOUR BRITISH SALTGLAZE STONEWARE FLASKS including two graduated Doulton & Watts, Lambeth Pottery 'Reform' flasks of 'Mr. and Mrs. Caudle' and 'Miss Prettyman', circa 1845-1850, impressed uppercase marks, navette shaped, molded with Mr. and Mrs. Caudle in bed above the inscription, 'No Mr. Caudle I shall not go to sleep like a good soul. See Punch', the obverse molded with a portrait of 'Miss Prettyman' holding a parasol, two-tone and brown saltglaze, h: 7.75 in. (the taller); a Doulton & Watts, Lambeth Pottery, pistol-form flask, 1827-1857, impressed uppercase mark, realistically modeled as a flint lock pistol, honey-brown saltglaze, l: 9.25 in.; and a British fish-form flask, mid-19th Century, likely Doulton & Watts, realistically modeled as an open mouth trout, two-tone brown saltglaze, l: 8.5 in. Mr. and Mrs. Caudle and Miss Prettyman are characters from Mrs. Caudle's Curtain Lectures, originally published in Punch Magazine in 1845. Mrs. Caudle's lectures to her unfortunate husband were delivered in bed each night when he was compelled to listen.
