GILT-BRASS AND STEEL ARMY INFANTRY CEREMONIAL SWORD AND SCABBARD Philadelphia, sword has guard with Indian princess, spread-wing eagle, 13 stars and other heraldic and military symbols and an eagle-head hilt chased with anthemion and palm frond decoration within beaded borders; green cloth braid on hilt handle is probably in place of original mother of pearl inlay; scabbard is chased with floral and foliate decoration, edged with beaded swag motif; this sword is a variant of an 1820 U.S. Army Officer's sword; this model sword was replaced in 1842
