Catalogue note: Julien Outin, a painter and printmaker, was born in the village of Landernau in Finistère, Brittany, and moved to Paris as a young man, where he lived and worked for the rest of his life. After World War II, he was part of a circle of young artists in Paris, including Americans like Ellsworth Kelly and Avel DeKnight, studying under the G.I. Bill. His work was featured in the 1992 Bibliothèque Nationale exhibition De Bonnard à Baselitz and remains in its permanent collection. In 1970, the French publisher Fayard released Ouvrages de Dames, a humorous collection of his collages and pen & ink drawings.
