THREE ROYAL DOULTON LAMBETH STONEWARE TOBY JUGS each after a model by Harry Simeon, circa 1925, including an inkwell and cover, impressed numbered 552 and impressed 8584, depicted seated, balancing a jug of ale on his right knee, a pipe in his left hand, in blue coat, buttoned vest and green breeches, his hat as the cover, h: 1 7/8 in.; a 'Best Is Not Too Good' Toby jug, impressed numbered 8588 and impressed 7, of squat form depicted seated, wearing a blue coat, green vest and brown breeches, balancing a jug of ale on his right knee, a pipe in his left hand, h: 4 in.; and a 'After Marriage / Marriage Day' miniature caricature jug, impressed numbered 8595, the brown top inscribed 'Marriage Day' above a smiling face; when inverted, the blue top is inscribed 'After Marriage' above a frowning face, h: 1 7/8 in. Literature: Harry Simeon was active at Doulton from 1896 - 1936. He began his distinctive Toby jug series in 1924.
